Laying it Out in Leopard

November 13, 2016 by Samjah Iman in Style

This past week I experienced about 972 emotions pertaining to the recent debacle.  I went from scared to mad to perplexed to negative to sad to indifferent then back to mad.  While experiencing all of my emotions, I engaged in conversations with family members and friends to dissect the recent events.  After all of the conversations and my different emotions, I came to a conclusion.  It's time get our s@$% together.

Life is hard.  It has been hard and will continue to be hard.  We need to stop looking for a break because we've never had one and possibly will never get one. We've been fighting to survive since the year of 1619, and the fight will not stop in 2017.  We are either going to complain about how we were, are, and will be treated, wait for God to drop something out of the sky, or pray and then jump in the fight by educating ourselves and our children more, loving ourselves more, eating healthier, exercising, handling our finances better, and creating opportunities for our successors.  We can continue to depend on them to help us...or help ourselves.  I choose to help myself.

To be continued......

Fancy (and Comfy) in Adidas

August 14, 2016 by Samjah Iman in Style

I'm really learning how to make this fashion thing work to accommodate me and not the other way around.  I remember a few years ago, I wasn't too concerned about being comfortable; just cute.  Fast forward to now, and I almost always make sure I accomplish both in everything I wear and do.

I recently attended White Linen Night in New Orleans.  This is a cultural event that involves art, food, all-white fashion, and music.  For this event, I made sure I complied with the all-white fashion request (BeBe Dress (old) and white choker).  I also made sure I was cool (hence the fan I got from the Dollar Store) and comfortable (my Adidas).

It seems the more comfortable I am, the more my style flows.  Fashion is not only about how you look, it's also about how you feel.  Keep it cute and comfy!

P.S. - Please keep the residents of Baton Rouge and surrounding areas in your prayers everyone.  A lot of people here are in desperate need of some love, peace, and blessings.

xoxoxo

The Not-So Mother Approved Style by Trenched In Style

August 09, 2016 by Samjah Iman in Style

Let's face it, heels can be aggravating at times.  It's kind of hard to remain fresh when your feet feel like they are jammed in a baby's shoe.  Don't get me wrong, I love a high heel just as much as I love crawfish - but I do believe the feet need a break from time to time.

Just because your feet are taking break doesn't mean your swag needs to.  You can still be just as dolled up with tennis shoes on as you can be in 5 inch heels.  I know tennis shoes worn with dresses was once a style that was frowned upon, but scratch that now.  Check out this article on Trenched In Style that shows you how to rock your girly looks with your fresh sneakers.

Remember ladies, comfortable and cute is always win-win situation.

Enjoy!

One Outfit, Two Ways - The ASOS Minimal Jumpsuit

May 11, 2016 by Samjah Iman in Style

I finally purchased the Minimal Jumpsuit from ASOS (which was on my wishlist), and boy am I glad I did!  This loose-fitting jumpsuit is so comfortable and versatile.  It will be getting plenty of wear throughout the year.

After taking these pictures, I met my girls for lunch.  We had a lot of catching up to do and me and this jumpsuit were both ready for some good conversation.

I'm definitely digging the pockets on the jumpsuit.  Having pockets on clothes gives me comfort for some reason.  During those awkward moments when I'm talking to people or just walking and I don't know what to do with my hands, I place them in my pockets and feel safe lol.

My Adidas really match up well with this jumpsuit.  It gives my effortless look some edge.  This is a perfect look for daytime events, festivals or even concerts.  However, if you have a dinner date, art show, or evening soiree to attend, simply throw the Adidas to the side and jazz it up with some heels.  It transforms very well.

To take my jumpsuit to an evening look, I added some eye-catching heels, a small purse and a belt.

This jumpsuit is a great purchase.  Clothing pieces that can be worn many different ways allow you to save money and express your creativity.  I can't wait to wear this jumpsuit with some flat sandals, a blazer or my oversized blue jean jacket.

Before I sign off, guess what?  I found the bike that was on my wishlist as well!  The best part about finding the bike was that I got it for an excellent price!  I was on a road trip, and while driving and singing along to some Jill Scott, I spotted an antique shop on the side of the highway.  I did a double take when I saw her (my bike) sitting out in the front saying, "Sam!! Let me roll girl!"  I politely did a u-turn and went to go get my bike.  When I made it back to the antique shop I was elated to discover that the bike was only $60!  I purchased that bike quick and went on about my business.  Ladies and gents, meet Priscilla.

I gave her the name Priscilla because that is the first name that came to my mind upon meeting her (I have no idea how my mind works).   Now Prissy (her nickname) needs some work done, but nonetheless she is still a doll.  My father is currently fixing her up to my liking.  Once she is done, I will show her off to you guys.

Enjoy the rest of your week sweethearts and remember to count it all joy!
